All testing has been moved to a vps. while it was possible to run opensim and bots on the xbox the real problem was bandwidth - so if someone wants to give old xbox a home in data center ?
will be updateing this soon - i have been working in my new opensim grid baragrid and on interworld ie os2sl communications using irc and bots or scripts or opensim region modules -check out the baragrid link above for up to date info -also collaborating with fire centaur from sl in English Village Region. we are setting up website av2av.org see above also. working on a one clic solution to create an account at av2av.org and on baragrid with ur sl username (sonn to be avail at english village.
This is all to run opensim and bots on an Xbox (not 360) with no hardware modifications. Acheived by using a game exploit to gain acces by ftp to the Xbox hard disc. Then Installing a dashboard exploit which runs an unsigned xbox executable called Cromwell Bios- Xromwell.xbe - Which in turn boots a linux system from thexbox hard drive. I used Xebian 1.1.4 to install linux. My Xbox is a 10 Gb model so i have installed on an ext3 native linux partition using the 2 Gb free space found on the later Xbox (if you have an earlier model with a 8 Gb hard drive you will have to install linux on the game partition E. ) -then comes the tricky bit. updating to a 2.6.18 -xbox kernel allowing a distritubution update to debian 4 (etch). Theh it is possible to install mono 1.91 and add all the cli2.0 and the xps2 packages. We can now compile the libsl stuff such as testclient, restbot, ssmbot or Robo2SL--- Ha! Robo2SL kept me busy - had to instal mono-2.4 and that was pretty easy on the ubuntu lappy, but the xbox wouldnt compile as its nit got enough RAM. so i tried the version I compiled on the ubuntu - Great it worked after a few probs sorting out the gacs and mono refs with 1.9.1 2.2 and 2.4 all installed. 1 in /usr/bin 2.2 in /usr/local/binand 2.4 in /opt/mono-2.4. Phew.. Then I lacked a version update of glib on the deb 4 and had to change my sources to lenny then update apt-get which insisted on updating glib for me. So far as it worked I havent continued with the lenny update so I am on Deb 4 1/2 just no. Well I have been busy. Since I got the bots working I have been checking out OpenSim and I have got that running on the Xbox Now (see Xbox OpenSim link in the menu above. Been working on the Joomla side too using ssmbinders contact components hacked to work with bot master using the friend part and using the xlmrpc messaging to control the bots from my website (more to come-
more to come keep tuned -ps the links will get updated along the way.
I will get round to finishing the howto openmetaverse an Xbox real soon I promise. keep tuned :)
